Grimsby startup harnesses road energy on the path to Net Zero
Rouute, a town-based company in Grimsby, is set to revolutionize greentech innovation with their hydraulic compression system. The system, which harnesses the movement of traffic to generate electricity, has garnered interest from high-traffic density areas, including airports and logistics operations. Founder Antony Edmondson-Bennett aims to deploy the system in these areas to accelerate decarbonization efforts.
With a successful small-scale pilot already conducted in South Yorkshire, Rouute’s system has proven its capability to power an electric vehicle charging hub. The scalability and ease of installation make it an attractive solution for terminal operations, particularly for weightier trucks. The system can be tailored to different applications and built on a modular basis.
Mr. Edmondson-Bennett, an ex-military professional with vast experience in oil and gas, conceived the idea while parked on the M25. Recognizing the immense potential of compression technology, he set out to develop a more accessible and efficient approach. After several years of prototyping, trials, and failures, Rouute has now perfected a process that works flawlessly.
The company’s vision extends beyond the local market, with plans to distribute the system globally. By keeping the manufacture of core elements in-house, Rouute aims to maintain control over quality and ensure British engineers are at the forefront of greentech innovation, much like Myenergi’s success in EV charging.
Rouute’s innovative system is expected to be installed in Grimsby in July, with potential clients from the shipping and freight forwarding industries. The company has received significant support, including a £250,000 investment last year and additional loans. As commercialization efforts ramp up, Rouute is poised to make a substantial impact in the field of greentech.
The company’s headquarters, currently based in Grimsby’s Telegraph House, houses a team of eight with four consultants. However, with the growing momentum and early support, Rouute anticipates expanding to larger premises in the near future.
As Rouute pioneers greentech innovation with their revolutionary hydraulic compression system, Grimsby has the opportunity to become a leader in the field of sustainable energy. With their commitment to decarbonization and the ability to generate electricity from traffic movement, Rouute exemplifies the potential for cutting-edge technologies to shape a greener future.
